Sebastien Loeb is close to securing his sixth world title in Wales this weekend, 23-25 October 2009. Coming in to Round 12 of the World Rally Championship he was trailing Mikko Hirvonen by one point. But at the end of Saturday’s special stages he was leading the event by 53 seconds with Hirvonen in second place.

There are only four stages to go on Sunday. After SS12 Loeb said, “I’m really happy, it was a very, very, good day – especially on the final two stages in the morning,” he said. “Early in the day I was able to build a good gap to Mikko, although this afternoon he was closer because the roads were muddier. But I’ve had a very good drive, made no mistakes and now here we are, with a good lead for tomorrow. Everything’s perfect for the moment.”

Hirvonen is the only driver capable of challenging Loeb for the Championship at this stage of the season. If Loeb wins it will be his sixth consecutive world title.
