Loeb Wins Sixth Consecutive World Title

Sebastien Loeb won his sixth consecutive World Rally Championship Driver’s Title today, beating Mikko Hirvonen in to second place in the Wales Rally GB, in the final round of the championship.

Loeb, driving his Citroen Total C4, finished ahead of Mikko Hirvonen and clinched his sixth consecutive driver’s title in Wales today, after finishing yesterday with a 53 second lead.

It was his seventh victory in the twelve round season, and his 54th overall.

Loeb said of his win, “This has been one of my best title wins; the battle was so intense – going almost until the end of the last rally. It was incredible. We have had some highs and some lows this year but we finished with the victory. It’s an incredible feeling!” he added.

Loeb finished 01:06:1 minutes ahead of Hirvonen after the Finn had problems with his bonnet coming lose on the penultimate stage afer a jump shook lose a bonnet retaining pin. That gave Loeb 93 points to Hirvonen’s 92 at the end of the event.

Citroen Total had already clinched the manufacturer’s title at an earlier round.
