Bobby Allison is one of the orginal members of the Alabama gang. This is a group of racecar drivers who hailed from Alabama. Allison is a winner of 84 races in what is now the Sprint Cup series. He is officially creditied with 84 race wins but he believes that he should be credited with an 85th win from the fairgrounds speedway in New York. A race that he did win but that race did not pay any points.
Allison made several starts in the Indianapolis 500 with a best finish of twenty fifth.
In 1983 Allison won the cup series championship. He is the winner of 3 Daytona 500s and along with son Davey the only father and son duo to finish 1-2 in the Daytona 500.
Allison was forced to retire from racing after suffering severe head injuries in a crash at Pocono.
