Hung Gar began as a southern shoalin system before the emperor burned down most of the temples; the emperor at the time thought only the army should know kung fu. He zealously hunted down and killed any masters of any system. However a shoalin monk called Hung surrvived and became a tea merchant. His student took the name of Hung also; the most famous Hung gar master is Wong Fei Hung; credited with structuring Hung Gar to it’s present form.
Hung Gar is now the most popular system in China and the world amonst kung fu systems; Hung Gar is known for it’s strength and power. Practicing this system builds strong legs ansd stances as well as powerful strikes. Hung Gar takes at least four to five years to understand the basics and a total of seven to fifteen to master.
