In today’s world violence seems to be every where. Even taking your family to a shopping Mall can be a risk taking adventure, or even driving on your local highway, or just around town. It seems Road Rage today is ever rampant.

Just pick up a newspaper, or turn on your favorite News channel, and you will be bombarded with violence, death, and mayhem.

Just recently in my town a young girl arrived early at her School Bus stop, while waiting for her bus. An unknown car pulled up. A man suddenly opened the car door and in a flash took hold of the unsuspecting girl and attempted to pull her into his car.

An amazing thing happened which the Abductor never expected. The girl fought back by screaming, kicking, and hitting her assailant so much that the man quickly broke off his attack and scurried into his Car and took off. Mind you that the Police as of this writing are still looking for the Perpetrator. So this man is still on the loose.

This girl realized that being a victim, her chances of survival, abduction or being raped were highly probable. She instead fought back. Rather than react she went into action and in this way the assailant reacted instead and she took control of the situation.

This is a simple principle of Self Defense. Rather than react to a situation go into action and let the other person go on the defense. For the most part muggers and trouble makers want an easy score. If you walk with your head down and your shoulders hunched over you may well be sending a message to a mugger that you are vulnerable and invite an attack. So walk proudly and with confidence with head erect and shoulders straight and in this way you project a strong image to any possible assailant or would be mugger.

I hope that this can be a help to any of you who want to be able to defend yourselves in any situation. I will be writing more articles on Self Defense and what tools you will need to use to hone your skills. These techniques are used from Martial Arts such as Wing Chun Kung Fu, Karate and other various Arts by hitting pressure points on the body to get maximum effect.

Two things we have learned.

  1. Don’t react to a situation but act. Produce action. Don’t fight your assailants fight. In boxing if a boxer fights his opponents fight he will in most cases lose that fight. Take the fight to your opponent let him react to you.
  2. Image. What you project of yourself is how people will judge you. If you project an image of weakness you will be looked at as weak and vulnerable. The opposite holds true for an image of strength. Muggers and such are always looking for weak people to rob and to push around. They want you to react and cower from their intimidation.
