Tae Kwon Do is an ancient form of Martial Arts. It’s one of the most common Martial Arts practiced in todays society. Contrary to popular belief Tae Kwon Do does not come from China, or Japan, but from Korea. Tae Kwon Do is similair to Karate or Kung Fu, but instead of just hand or foot techniques it specializes in both. In fact in Korean Tae Kwon Do mean ‘Way of the Hand and Foot.’

Tae Kwon Do was used by Korean warriors for many centuries. They used bows, swords, nun-chucks, and bow staffs as common weapons. Along with weapons they also learned the art of Tae Kwon Do. Basic kicks, punches, forms, and blocks were all mastered before they could go into battle. As experience escalates the warriors learned more complicated movements resulting in some of the instruction Tae Kwon Do masters demonstrate today.

Along with Tae Kwon Do warriors could also learn Hap Ki Do, a more direct combat approach. This involves throwing, tripping, and pressure points. It is much more up close and personal then the kicks of Tae Kwon Do, but also offers a high threat of injury.

Tae Kwon Do is a popular and traditional Martial Art form. Many children, teens, and adults practice this ancient art for protection, physical conditioning and love of the sport. For more information about Tae Kwon Do contact a local Tae Kwon Do studio.
