The first boxing bouts could be seen in ancient Greece, where the boxers performed at Olympic Games and other public events. Some of the rules they observed were very much like the ones we have today. But there was one big difference. The fighters wore CESTUS instead of gloves. CESTUS was a wrapping of leather studded with lead or bronze plates. One blow from a cestus could serous injury.

Wrestling

Wrestling is an organized and scientific sport, probably introduced into Greece from Egypt or Asia. It is one of the earliest sports known to men. Many hundreds of senses of wrestling matches are carved on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs. They show nearly all the holds and falls known to us today. Wrestling is a highly developed sport for the last 5000 years.

Sumo

Sumo- the Japanese have a style of wrestling that is called `Sumo’. In which weight is very important.

Skiing

Skiing as a sport began in Norway, in the province of Tidemark. You may think that skiing is a modern sport, but it is actually one of the oldest forms of travel known to men. Some historians claim that Skis goes back to the Stone Age, as they have found ancient carvings that show people on skis. The first skis, of which there are a number of records, were ling, curved frames, often made of the bones of animals and held to the foot by thongs. There is a picture carved on a stone that is 900 years old which shows a ski runner.

Fosbury Flop

A style of high jumping, named after its inventor, Dick Fosbury, who first used it at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. The technique revolutionized the sport of high jumping. In this method, the athletic clears the jump facing upwards, with back to the bar, and lands with the back on the mat. Until then jumpers would leapers would leap would leap facing the bar, swinging first one leg and then the other over the bar, in a scissor motion.
