Five Reasons Why Hockey Rocks.

Go Washington Capitals!
I left the Verizon Center to the sound of car horns, honk, honk honk, lets go caps! My first experience at a hockey game would not soon be forgotten. The Washington Capitals won that night, 4-0, and now I’m frantically searching ebay for a Alexander Ovetchken T-shirt (red russian style). I’ve been to football games, baseball games, soccer games, swim meets, water polo matches and track meets but a hockey game is by far the best sport to watch for the following 5 reasons.
- Hockey fans are wild! Hockey fans are by far the loudest and craziest fans around. They’re louder than any other spectator when their team scores and they aren’t afraid to stand up for the team. At one point during the night, they had to stop the game because a scuffle between Caps and Rangers fan had dislodged the glass behind the rangers bench. Hockey fans will even get out of their seats (when they’re 10 rows away from the glass) to run up and pound on the glass when the opposing team gets slammed against the glass.
- It’s always cold in the stadium! This is a great selling point for hockey stadiums. I’ve been to too many baseball and soccer games when it’s sizzling outside and you need a whole bottle of sunscreen to survive the day. It feels great in a hockey stadium and the players stand out well against the white of the ice.
- Hockey players are tough. When a hockey player is slammed against the glass it’s awesome! The impact on the glass shakes the wall and the fans go crazy. The best part of the roughness in hockey is that it builds up through the game and by the last quarter there is sure to be a fight or two that’ll break out.
- Random pucks. The force and impact of a puck that hits a glass shield usually leaves a mark. More than once during a game a refree had to do some sort of Matrix move in order to avoid being hit by a flying puck. The fact that a spectator has to be aware of flying pucks at all times just makes the game more interesting to watch.
- Did I mention the food. Stadium food is expensive anywhere but the best part of hockey is the massive amount of beer that fans consume. I swear that the fan in front of me had more beers than was humanly possible. Grab some natchos and a soda for a good time too! According to a friend, a beer bottel is sometimes thrown onto the ice if a crowd is really rowdy.
Hockey rocks so go out and see a hockey game. It sucks on TV so see it in person. Go caps!
