The Oshawa Generals are arguably the most successful and oldest franchise in the Ontario Hockey League. Although success has hidden from the franchise recently, the Generals are twelve time winners of the Robertson Cup as OHL playoff champ and have been to the Memorial Cup on numerous occasions.

Q. What Generals player was the first to win the Jim Mahon Memorial Trophy more than once as the OHL’s top scoring right winger?

A. Tony Tanti won the Jim Mahon in 1980-81 and 1981-82. Since that time, only Keith Brown of the Detroit Junior Red Wings and Corey Perry of the London Knights have accomplished the feat.

Q. Who is the only Oshawa Generals player has been honoured with the CHL Top Scorer Award?

A. With 43 goals, 96 assists and 139 points, Marc Savard was the leading point getter in all of Canada for 1994-95. He would lead the OHL in scoring again in 1996-97 with 130 points. Savard was the 91st overall pick of the New York Rangers in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He has played over 800 NHL games with the Rangers, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers and Boston Bruins.

Q. What General won the Emms Family Award in 2005-06 as the OHL’s Rookie of the Year?

A. The Generals chose John Tavares first overall in the 2005 OHL Entry Draft and he didn’t disappoint. With 45 goals in 65 games during his rookie season, Tavares was also named the CHL’s top rookie.

Q. Trick Question? What Generals defenseman did the team retire the jersey number 2 in honour of?

A. Better known as number 4, Bobby Orr wore 2 as an Oshawa General. Of course, Orr is in the Hockey Hall of Fame and his more familiar number 4 has long been retired by the Boston Bruins. Bobby Orr played four seasons with the Oshawa Generals from 1962-63 to 1965-66.
