The Vancouver Canucks entered the National Hockey League for the 1970-71 season along with the Buffalo Sabres. In the team’s thirty year history, the Canucks have made it to the Stanley Cup finals on two occasions. Vancouver lost to the New York Islanders in the 1981-82 final and lost to the New York Rangers in the 1993-94 final.

A. Stan Smyl played thirteen seasons in the NHL, all with the Vancouver Canucks. Smyl was the team’s captain for a number of seasons and at retirement held most of the team’s career scoring records. He was the first player to have his number retired by the Canucks.
Q. Who was the first ever player drafted by the Vancouver Canucks?
A. Dale Tallon was drafted second overall behind Gilbert Perreault who went to the Buffalo Sabres. Tallon played three seasons with the Canucks before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. He retired with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1979-80.
