There is never a guaranteed way to win when wagering on sports. It can be extremely difficult and unpredictable. If you are a fan of the NFL, there is a phrase you’ll often hear; “any given Sunday”. Its implications are far reaching. It essentially means that on any Sunday, any NFL team can beat another. That’s what makes wagering on the NFL difficult. The problem is that there are only 16 games in a season. All the teams understand the importance of each game and will do anything to win. In addition, there is the point spread to deal with. It’s never an easy bet. However, in the NHL it’s a little different. There are exactly 82 games that are played in a season. This is much more than the NFL’s 16 games, and still less than the 162 games that baseball plays. Along the way, NHL teams go on winning and losing streaks, but there always seems to be one consistent theme.
Are you serious? We just played an overtime game last night!
When you are looking to find teams to win, it is never a bad idea to look at those teams that are playing at home, and who are playing a team that just played the night before. On a number of occasions, you’ll find teams that have had several games in a week, and suddenly finish their previous game in a shootout or in overtime. To have to play another game after playing into overtime the night before is never easy. Either way, they are tired and just want to end the road trip. They will go into the next game completely exhausted. Meanwhile, you have a fresh team playing at home, waiting to win. Typically the teams that play the night before, and had a game decided in overtime, won’t start their number one goalie if he’s played all week. These are excellent signs that the team is ripe for an upset.
Regardless of how highly ranked they are, pick the flat team to lose.
It really doesn’t matter how good the team is. A tired team will play poorly no matter what the situation. Remember, everyone loses in an NHL season. There are 82 games and nobody ever goes undefeated. It’s simply impossible. Teams at home will always be looking forward to playing the best teams, especially if they are tired. You have an entire week to plan your attack. There are numerous games played throughout the week, so take advantage of the schedule.
Remember, wagering on sports can be unpredictable. There is never any guarantee that you’ll come out ahead. Upsets are commonplace. However, the NHL offers some interesting ways to work the schedule to your favor. Take the time to review the schedules, and look for those teams who play two, or even three nights in a row. They most likely will be primed for an upset.
