today (sept 17, 2009) Dion Phaneuf, the Calgary Flames defense man, absolutely destroyed Kyle Okposo of the New York Islanders. Some people call this kind of hit “Trolley tracks” and rightfully so too. In this New video it looks like Kyle Okposo got hit by a train! after the hit many brawls erupted on the ice but no punches were thrown and the hit was clean so absolutely no penalties were called. Kyle Okposo had to be carried out of the arena on a stretcher.
This hit happened early in period number two as the Islanders had a 2 goal lead over the Flames. Usually this kind of hit is used to intimidate the other team and even scare them a little. In this case i think it worked very well!
