Canada has done it again; they captured gold at the World Junior Hockey Championship (WJHC) with a convincing 5-1 win over their opponents, Sweden. This win marked the fifth straight year in which the Canadian juniors were able to capture gold at the WJHC.
Dustin Tokarski, Canada’s goaltender, turned in an amazing performance in the gold medal game by stopping 39 shots out of Sweden’s 40 in the victory. Even though Tokarski was insecure at times throughout the tournament, he played his best when it was most important, and that’s all that matters. Pat Quinn’s decision to put Tokarski in net for the final was highly criticized due to shaky games against the United States and then Russia, during the semifinals. As for Tokarski’s counterpart, Jacob Markstrom did not do as well and had trouble handling the pressure from Canada, which included many run-ins with Canadian players. Markstrom managed to make only 26 saves in the game.

Way to go for national pride. Great determination on their part.
