“NIEMI SAYS NO!” This was a hot phrase for the Blackhawks’ announcer Pat Foley during last year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. This year, Foley will have to think of a new great call for the veteran netminder Marty Turco as Antti Niemi has just signed with the San Jose Sharks. The deal signed Niemi to one year for $2 Million. The Hawks are hoping that Turco will be great for the team as this will be his 10th year in the league. Coach Joel Quennville is also hoping that Turco will be able to offer Corey Crawford, the Hawks’ prospect goalie, some times and insight in the net. Chicago is coming off of a tremedous season with a record of 52-22-8 and obviously coming out on top in the playoffs hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup.

The Chicago Blackhawks Keys to Success 2009-2010:

Strong defense with a Penalty Kill Percentage of 84.9!

4 all-around strong offensive lines.

Played a fast paced game that opponents had a tough time keeping up against.

Very strong goaltending.

Sell out crowds at the United Center for every home game.

Great coaching from Quennville, Haviland and Torchetti.

This year the hawks will have to cope with key losses of players such as Niemi, Byfuglien, Ladd, Sopel, and Kris Versteeg. The Hawks will be tested this season with losses of such valuable players. If they maintain a strong defense, offensive numbers shall stay high with stars such as Toews, Kane and Hossa still around. This year shall be an interesting one as the Hawks battle the Sharks in the for the Western Conference Title.
