Many golfers have suffered from the slice of doom throughout the years, but many are really unclear on what exactly causes the ball to slice. And the best way to fix a part of your swing is to know what causes it. The golfer’s slice is cause of having an open club face on impact. A slice is a shot in which the ball leaves the tee left to right for right-handed players and right to left for left handed players. Pros and skilled golfers have mastered the shot and can preform it at will to achieve a perfect slice and give them an advantage on the course. However, many golfs suffer from this shot, some even have a hard time recovering. So, what can you do to fix a slice?

Because a slice is caused by an open club face a player should attempt to keep the club head squared with the ball. This is easier said then done. It’s all in the wrist and the twist. When addressing the ball one should keep arms parallel and even. Once the swing has begun the back swing will remain the same. The crucial part is your downswing, this is when your arms allow the club to make contact with the ball. If you are slicing the ball you will want to roll your right arm over your left when making contact. This will completely eliminate the chance at a slice, but at the same time it opens your shot up for the possibility for a nasty hook.

In no way should this be practiced in the middle of playing around of golf. You should purchase a small self standing mirror that can be angled upward. When going to the driving range set up the mirror in front of you so you can see yourself swing. Another good way to ensure that you are correcting your swing or just to analyze your swing is to set up a video camera. You will want to tape from two different angles, directly in front of you and to your side. When you review the tape be sure to slow it down and watch your wrists throughout the shot.

Keep your club face square, rotate your wrist through the swing and finish strong. It may take a few shots and adjusting but you will get there. The best thing to remember is that everyone who has ever played golf has had to deal with the slice, even the best.
