Here we interviewed Mike Habermehl, PGA to find out more about this course.
Golfer: Is the wind a factor on the course?
Habermehl: The wind is always a factor at Fairview. It can be from a different direction every day, which can make the par 3’s a challenge
Golfer: What about the terrain?
Habermehl: The terrain here is hilly with very few flat lies, but the fairways are generous, and with no hidden trouble
Golfer: That’s good to know. What about hazards?
Habermehl: The course only has 8 sand bunkers. We have water on holes 8-10-14-15-17. All are regular water hazards so they have to be crossed.
Golfer: And the greens?
Habermehl: We have generous size greens, some flat, others multiple tiers. Pin placements change every day, some are middle of green easy but for tournament play they can be set very hard
Golfer: And do you have any tips for the first time player?
Habermehl: The great thing about Fairview is that it is all out in front of you, no tricky dog legs, no blind shots. There are lots of mature trees but nothing hidden.
Golfer: Can the player find a hole-by-hole description?
Habermehl: Yes, our scorecards are marked hole by hole. I don’t know that we have a “signature hole” on our course, though. It was built before that was a trendy thing to do (laughs). Our #8 hole is the # 1 handicap hole. Most have to lay up short of the water off the tee. Then they can be faced with a shot to the green of anywhere from 160 -220 uphill to a very large green.
Golfer: Has the course had any celebrities play here?
Habermehl: Yes. We have had several music stars play here on their way through St Joseph, or when they have played in town. Charlie Daniels, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Garth Brooks, as well as mini tour players, have all played at Fairview.
Golfer: What about the facilities available for the golfer? What do you have available?
Habermehl: We are actually getting ready to undergo a 9 month club house renovation. This will give us a club house with facilities to host larger events with banquet capability. The course has full 18 holes, practice range and nice large putting green.
Peak season is April –October, and we offer golf packages. We also offer coupons all year round. Green fees on the weekends are $37.00 including cart rental. Players can walk and the fee is $23.00
Golfer: Sounds great, thank you so much!
