A lot of amateur golfers make the simple mistake of not properly maintaining their golf grips, if they even maintain them at all. After time your grips can become smooth, making it hard to hold on to, allowing the club to twist in your hand, causing a hook or slice. The reason your grips become smooth, is due to the oil from your hands. By washing your grips with basic dish soap, it will actually make your grips a little more tackier, allowing better grip. As time goes by, you will of course need to replace them, but for the time being, this tip will help.

All you need to do is simply clean the grooves in your grip, either with a soft brush or a moderately abrasive rag (Avoid anything that will scratch your grips). Once you have cleaned them as best you can, you are ready to gently rub a soapy, soft cloth onto the grip, but try to avoid getting any soap on the metal shaft (if you do simply wipe it off.). After soapy it down, use a damp cloth and wash off the excess soap or just run them under warm water. Next, just dry your grips off and again make sure to keep the shafts dry and you are ready to go.
