“ Week 1 : So Far so Good Bengals Win”
Against the back drop of the 10th aniversery of one of the worse days in this young century, the NFL and its players settled all of their labor differences and went back to work. That meant that my Bengals took a trip tp the northern part of the state to renew an old rivalry with the North Division Cleveland Browns. A bit early in the season for a division game , but since I had my doubts sbout them starting on time I’ll take it.

The Men in stripes are going into this season with out their veteren field General as Carson Palmer put his foot down and said “ Trade Me or I retire” and is sitting home on the bean bag in southern California living the sweet life. In his place is place is second round pick from this past years draft Andy Dalton from TCU. Thrust in to the lime light quiick, young Dalton his shown a great deal of grace under pressure but looking at him and watching play I can’t help but think one thing, is this guy just a young Jon Kitna with a few more athletic Skills. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what pops into my head right off the bat.
Any how ,when all is said and done , this team will win on Cedric Bensons Legs and Mike Zimmer’s Defense, both of which performed well yesterday. The defense kept the browns pinned behind the thirty for the first quarter and harassed Colt McCoy off and on for most of the game. My one big question for the immediate future isDavid Garrard is looking for a job iand in this situation he could be of some use to the bengals as a veteren quaterback that has some mobilty. There are curently any where from two to five teams courting him and I have serious doubts if the bengals are one of them.
As far as Benson Goes, my greatest fear with him is he starts to get tired around the tenth or tweleth game and runs the risk of injuries . they need to get Bernard Scott More Touches so Benson can keep his legs Fresh just in case I don’t know, they might still be in this thing in november or december.
A word on the new kicking Rules . while I relize protecting the players is important , taking one of the most exciting plays off the field to do it just isnt the way to go. If you are going to kick off from the 35, then your going to have to get rid of the kicking out of bounds rule then. Give some teams some incentive not to blow the ball out the back of the endzone otherwise with the legs in the league now, why even have a Kickoff. Face facts it’s not a contactsport, it’s s collissiun sport , large men run into one an other at high rates of speed and there is only somuch you can do to protect them without doing harm to the game itself.see you next week.
