USC Trojan Marc Sanchez Jumped Prematurely Into the NFL Draft

I know one person not rejoicing over Mark Sanchez’s decision, and that would be USC Head Coach Pete Carroll. He wanted Sanchez to stay another year.

USC’s Mark Sanchez announced his decision to enter the NFL draft alone.  His coach, Pete Carroll, would not sit next to him during the press conference where he made his announcement.  When Carroll did sit next to him, Sanchez would not look at him.

First of all, the last person that I would have considered to enter the draft would be Sanchez.  After all, he still has one more year of eligibility, and one year as a starter. He did play on BCS ranked team and had stellar performance in the Rose Bowl. Yet, Florida St”s Tebow and Oklahoma’s Bradford, Heisman Trophy Winners, both played for this year’s BCS championship, and they both decided to stay out the draft.

Next, I think Carroll did a bad job of handling this situation.  I agree with his argument to stay one more year, but he could have put on better performance.  He could have shown Sanchez more respect during this press conference.

Carroll wanted Sanchez to stay the full term like Quarterbacks Carson Palmer Matt Lienhart. Yes, both Quaterbacks may have played their full terms and became Heisman Trophy winners, yet they went in opposite directions on their NFL teams.

Carson Palmer remains on starter on the Cininati Bengals while Matt Leinhart sits on the bench behind Kurt Warner.

When a player enters the NFL Draft in his senior year, does not mean that he will be drafted at any round let alone at a higher round.  It also doesn’t make him an automatic starter.  Few have been made automatic starters, such examples would be Chris Long in St Louis and Matt Ryan in Atlanta.

Matt Ryan being the starting Quarterback,  would be a rear possibility in the NFL. Quarterbacks out of college have to fill the role as the vetern Quarterbacks understudy waiting for his departure or injury. As in the case of Aron Brooks in Green Bay, he became the stater when Brett Farve left for New York.

Anyone, who plays football has that dream to be in the NFL. The League chooses many, but only a few have the right character to be considered a Pro Football Player.  The league has its fill of Pacman Jones and Terrel Ownens, but few McNabbs, Westbrooks, Jacksons, and Mannings.

I feel Sanchez made a wrong choice while at the same time you have question Carrolls’ motive because he does have to find a new Quarterback. Mark you should have waited.
