What do you think of when you hear “Steve McNair”? Do you think of a quarterback who brought the Titans to there first ever Super Bowl? Maybe you think of a tough quarterback who wasn’t afraid to run the ball and take a hit? Or do you think of a guy who wasn’t as much of a superman off the field as he was on the field? He had 174 passing touchdowns, and 31,304 passing yards. However this article isn’t about his career on the field, but about his murder that happened on July 4th, 2009.
Some people don’t know all the facts, so I will lay them out here first so we can try to come up with a conclusion. Steve McNair was found dead in a condominium on July 4th, 2009 in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. He was found with two shots to the temple and two shots to the chest. Next to him was his 20 year old girlfriend Sahel Kazemi, also dead. She was shot once in the head. Under her body was a gun that was purchased 2 days earlier. On July 5th, Nashville police announced the crime as a homicide. So that was it right? A double murder and a killer on the loose right? Well lets look into it more.
Some investigators have recently suggested that the the crime may actually be a murder-suicide. Meaning Kazemi used her purchased gun to shoot McNair four times and kill him. The shooting herself in the head. After more investigation it was decided that the first three shots may have been at medium range while the last shot was at a very close range. What do I think? I agree with the murder-suicide theory. It seems very logical. Some investigators dismiss the theory due to “lack of motive”. She may have been very taken care of with McNair being very wealthy and well-known. What kind of motives could she have had? Love? Jealousy? There seem to be multiple possibilities.
More information about this case will surface I’m sure. I just wanted to give my opinion and a run down of the facts. You can make your own opinion and theory about the case. I wish the best to all of McNair’s and Kazemi’s friends and families along with others who are hurt by this loss. Hopefully they can all pull through this.
