Thank You for Retiring, Brett

We’ll miss you, but better to walk away.

Many Packer fans and fans of the NFL in general have been praying, pleading, and hoping Brett Favre would come back and play just one more year. But, as a loyal Packer and Brett Favre fan, I only have one question. When will it be okay for him to retire? If he does play one more year, those same fans will be clamoring for just one more year. Brett Favre can’t play forever, even though we would love him to.

How’s this for a scenario in which Brett hang’s up the cleats- In a season where the Packers weren’t expected to be much of a factor, they surprise everyone, maybe even themselves, to a 13-3 record. At the age of 38, Brett Favre plays at an MVP level, and is virtually the entire offense for half of the season. The Packers host the NFC Championship game, only to lose to the eventual champions.

That sounds great to me. Call me crazy, but I don’t believe the Packers were a 13 win team. They had a lot of breaks go their way, and found a no-name running back just in the nick of time. Next year, with or without Favre, not everything is going to go the Packers way. They wont get all of the breaks. They won’t win 13 games. Brett knew this, and decided he had had enough.

Like it or not, and I don’t like it but I accept it, this was the perfect time for Brett Favre to call it a career. For the rest of our lives, Brett will be playing again. Celebrating like a kid after a touchdown pass. But only in our minds, and in our hearts.
