The super bowl is something that hypes many people up every year regardless of if their favorite team is playing or not. It is the biggest football game of the NFL and the most watched T.V. program that lasts just 4 hours. This year in the 2010-2011 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the AFC and the Green Bay Packers the NFC. In my opinion, I’d prefer for the Steelers to win, but I’m going to break down this match-up way further than that.

Both teams had highly rated quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay) and Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh). Ben aka Big Ben started with week 6 after serving a five game suspension. In 12 games he threw for 3,200 yards, 17 TDs, and only 5 INTs with a passer rating of 97. Aaron Rodgers played 15 games and threw for 3,922 yards, 28 TDs, and 7 INTs with a passer rating of 101.2.
The Packers have a rookie running back James Starks who didn’t do much of anything in the regular season, but has proved himself in the playoffs with 263 rushing yards and 1 TD. The Steelers have one of the top running backs, however, in Rashard Mendenhall who played 16 games and ran for 1,273 yards with 13 TDs.
The Packers have 4 receivers with more than 500 receiving yards with the number one being Greg Jennings with 1,265 yards and 12 TDs. The Steelers only have 3 receivers with more than 500 receiving yards with the top one being Mike Wallace with 1,265 yards and 10 TDs.
The Packers made 22/28 FGs with Kicker Mason Crosby. The Steelers made 29/37 with the combination of Jeff Reed and Shaun Suisham.
Both teams had gruel-some defenses. The Packers had 24 INTs and 47 Sacks. The Steelers had 13 INTs and 48 Sacks. Green Bay allowed 114 rushing yards and 194 passing yards per game to the Steelers 62 rushing yards and 214 passing yards allowed per game. The Steelers are hard hitting and will stop the run. The Packers are very good at keeping an eye on the QB and getting INTs. The Packers allowed 240 points throughout the regular season to the Steelers 232 points allowed.
Overall (ON A SCALE OF 10)
QB: Packers with slight edge 10-9
RB: Steelers with large edge 10-6.5
WR: Tie 9-9
K: Packers with slight edge 8-7.5
DEF: Steelers with slight edge 10-9.5
These teams are pretty well matched as you can see by their players and stats. That is why they are playing each other in the superbowl as well. It should be a great game!
Post any comments: who you want to win, etc. . . I want your feedback, and I want to know what you say about this game.
