Scott Pioli will be introduced today as the new General Manager of the Kansas City Chiefs. Many people know Pioli as one of the masterminds in New England, teaming up with the coaching whizz Bill Belichick to mold the Patriots into the team that won three Super Bowls in four years. Pioli has been recognized as a “great evaluator of talent” by many, which is exactly what the Chiefs need going into next season and beyond.
The fate of current Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards is unknown, but rumors are that he is finished in Kansas City. Some speculate that if Edwards is indeed gone, then so too is unhappy former Pro Bowl running back Larry Johnson. The status Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez, who earlier this season asked to be traded, is also unclear.
There are many questions in KC, from possible starters next season to coaching changes to veterans futures. The true Chiefs fan should have confidence in owner Clark Hunt and his decision to hire one of the most respected GM candidates. This team is ready to be a success, but only time will tell.
