Why Ohio State should have beat Texas in the Fiesta Bowl.

Ohio State should have won the 2008 Fiesta Bowl against Teas. There were so many poor calls called by the refs. During the fourth quarter, a flag was thrown against Ohio State for roughing the passer. Watching the play, it was CLEARLY seen that McCoy was hit in the shoulder pad, not the helmet. That call had a major affect on the outcome on that drive. Because of that call, Texas was able to score a touchdown. Earlier in the game, the officials reviewed Heartline’s catch to see if he caught it, which he obviously did.

That play had little significance on the game because if he didn’t catch it, Ohio State would have more attempts at a first down. The refs should review a questionable play if it will affect the outcome of the game. Because they didn’t review the roughing the passer accusation, they couldn’t call fourth down and make Texas punt it giving the ball to Ohio State. Also what really made me angry was the fact that during the final seconds of the game, Ohio State was up and it was fourth down. McCoy threw the ball to one of his receivers, yet he got tackled inches short of the first down line. Not only did the ref place the ball forwards far enough to call it a first down, they didn’t review the play to see were the ball should be spotted. That was the worst decision anyone could make. That play decided if Ohio State won or Texas. This makes me wonder if the refs were paid or they gambled on the game. There is no way that any normal person would not find where exactly the ball should be placed on a fourth down attempt. It just shows that there were some faulty refs in the game. When all the Ohio State players were lined up against the sideline watching to see if the ball crossed the first down line saw that it was short and yet the ref placed it several inches forward from where it was supposed to be placed they had a right to be mad.

Even though later, the refs reviewed the play, they did not review it to the extent to where they could accurately place the ball. The review took like thirty seconds and from poor camera angles. On such an important play of the game, the refs should have stepped up and actually not have helped out their favorite team, Texas. Texas has one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league, it doesn’t need extra help by the refs, They should just do their job and the best team win.
