Official NFL Power Rankings: Week 13

NFL Top to Bottom.

Comments (46)|12 Liked It

Any remaining questions about the Saints have now been answered, as they completely dismantled the Pats.  A number of teams are in the playoff hunt that appeared dead in the water not that long ago, namely the Packers and Titans.  The top and bottom of the chart stay similar, with the usual shakeup in the middle;  here, for week 13, your NFL power rankings.

1. New Orleans Saints (11-0) (last wk #1)

Any Doubters left?

2. Indianapolis Colts (11-0) (last wk #2)

They just keep squeaking by; you figure it’s going to catch up before the regular season ends… and that this will be a battle tested group come playoff time.

3. Minnesota Vikings (10-1) (last wk #3)

Favre and his crew are starting to look like they might be able to give the Saints a run for their money.

4. San Diego Chargers (8-3) (last wk #5)

They just keep quietly winning… starting to look like the Chargers of a few years ago.

5. Green Bay Packers  (7-4) (last wk #7)

If they beat the Ravens on Monday, they look playoff bound.  And this is a team no one wants to run into in the playoffs.

6. Dallas Cowboys (8-3) (last wk #9)

Cowboys have a chance to take firm control of the division.

7. Cincinnati Bengals (8-3) (last wk #8)

Not exactly impressive in win over the Browns.

8. New England Patriots (7-4) (last wk #4)

Still a very good team… just not an elite one anymore.

9. Tennessee Titans (5-6) (last wk #12)

People laughed when I said playoffs a month ago.

10. Philadelphia Eagles (7-4) (last wk #11)

It’s hard to tell just how good the Eagles are; some weeks they look elite, and others they just plain suck.

11. Arizona Cardinals (7-4) (last wk #6)

9 wins will get them to the playoffs with ease… another mediocre year  in a weak division gets them to the show… don’t expect a Super Bowl run this year.

12. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) (last wk #10)

They’re cutting it awful close here…

13. Denver Broncos (7-4) (last wk #21)

They still aren’t very good.  Kyle Orton isn’t very good.  Even at 7-4, still not going to the playoffs.

14. Baltimore Ravens (6-5) (last wk #15)

We all know they don’t win that game if Big Ben plays.

15. San Fransisco 49ers (5-6) (last wk #20)

Too late for a playoff run, but this is not a bad team.

16. New York Jets (5-6) (last wk #23)

Sanchez= Over rated.

17. Atlanta Falcons (6-5) (last wk #17)

Needing a last second TD to knock off the Succaneers is far from impressive.

18. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-5) (last wk #14)

Every time you start to think they might actually be a good team…

19. Houston Texans (5-6) (last wk #16)

Respectable against Colts… again.

20. Miami Dolphins (5-6) (last wk #13)

I still think they might save the season; Pittsburgh losing leaves the door at least somewhat open… but blowing it like that against the Bills?

21. New York Giants (6-5) (last week #18)

Worse and worse.

22. Buffalo Bills (4-7) (last wk #25)

Knocking off Miami was a nice little consolation prize.  When does the Bills organization get tired of playing spoiler?

23. Carolina Panthers (4-7) (last wk #19)

Jake Delhomme is just about ready to hang ‘em up.

24. Kansas City Chiefs (3-8) (last wk #22)

Is this rebuilding?  It just looks like losing.

25. Washington Redskins (3-8) (last wk #26)

Gave the Eagles a run for their money… This team needs some playmakers on offence next year.

26. Seattle Seahawks (4-7) (last wk #29)

Such high expectations to start the year…

27. Chicago Bears (4-7) (last wk #24)

Jay Cutler was supposed to be an improvement.  Who’s bright idea was that?

28. Tampa Bay Succaneers (1-10) (last wk #31)

They’re still the Succs, but they are improving.

29. Oakland Raiders  (3-8) (last week #27)

You have to wonder if the Raiders will ever win a game and not have it called an upset.

30. Detroit Lions (2-9) (last wk #28)

At least it’s not 0-16.

31. St Louis Rams  (1-10) (last week #30)

Thank god for the Browns.  The cellar is cold and lonely.

32. Cleveland Browns (1-10) (last week #32)

I’ve decided not to even comment on the Browns any more.

Hey, I want to report a crime, I think someone stole the real players on my team and substituted them with poor quality clones, could someone put out an APB for the real Chicago Bears?

    Great article!

  3. Posted December 1, 2009 at 9:28 am

Interesting article. I know nothing about football but I thought this was an interesting approach to comment on all the teams.

    Interesting article.

  5. Posted December 1, 2009 at 12:55 pm

I’d say you got the first four right, but Geen Bay above the Bengals and Pats? I’m not so sure.

    Posted December 1, 2009 at 12:57 pm

Well you got the first and last one right. Green Bay. LMAO!!!

  7. Posted December 1, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Green Bay should not be that high and the Eagles should be higher for sure.

What r u a packers fan please? This isn’t college football where style points matter in the NFL records and head to head wins matter. Ben or no Ben the Ravens and Steelers have the same record and the Ravens just beat them. The Bengals beat GB and have a better record. Um Jacksonville should be higher they are currently in as a wildcard and u have them below the Jets. Good thing these are the “OFFICIAL” power rankings i’d hate to think they were just some idiot slapping these together.

  9. Posted December 1, 2009 at 2:49 pm

and you obviously have no idea what youre spouting about. the rams almost beat the saints earlier this year… if they had, would that mean the rams were a betterr football team? and while jax might be ‘in’ now, do you really thinnk they’ll still be there in a month? quit trying to impress yourself and watch a damn game or two.

The Titans at #9? Alrighty then. They have been on a roll here lately, but to have them above teams with better records is just not right IMO.

  11. Posted December 1, 2009 at 4:38 pm

packers and eagles over rated on this…

  12. Posted December 1, 2009 at 7:55 pm

*sigh.* look at their remaining schedule… and that of the other teams you mentioned. realistically, if the titans will be in the post season. not that complicated.

Oh, maybe I should talk about how you said the Broncos won’t make the playoffs. With games against KC (2x), OAK, IND, and PHI left, it’s hard to say they won’t win a wild card spot. Just a win vs IND or PHI and the rest of their cake schedule are wins, the Broncos should go 11-5. Hell, with SD still having to play CIN and DAL, a division win for the Broncos is still not out of the question one bit. The only thing that impresses me regarding the Chargers is their Passing game and their Pass defense.

  14. Posted December 1, 2009 at 8:02 pm

first off, theyre not going to beat indy or the eagles. kansas city will give them a run at kc, as will oakland. youre not taking into consideration that the broncos just arent very good; theyre 7-4 on the strength of a weak schedule and the good fortune of catching a few teams at bad times. youre obviously forgetting that before beating up on the giants (who are garbage now) they were looking REALLY bad. lose to indy and phil and just one of those other 3, theyre at 9-7. no way 9-7 makes the afc playoffs this year.

    Posted December 1, 2009 at 8:04 pm

Ok, let’s both have a look shall we?

Realistically you can almost guarantee a IND loss due to that fact that they are looking for Home Field for the playoffs, they are playing AT IND, and because Peyton Manning will just tear the 31st ranked Pass Defense apart. Then they have to face SD a few weeks later. Another explosive offense that Tennessee will not be able to control. That’s 8 losses for them right there. If they even get an upset against of of those two teams, things are still not looking bright for them.

  16. Posted December 1, 2009 at 8:09 pm

i dont thinkyou can assume an indy win at all. they have looked less than dominant the last several weeks or so, and i think tenn. knocks them off. the one kind of team that will give the colts fits is one that can control the clock with a running game… and do you really think the titans wont run indy ragged? same with sd.

  17. Bengals Fan
    Posted December 1, 2009 at 8:13 pm

Denver beat CIN, DAL, SD, and NE. All of those guys are looking at probable division wins at the moment. They have not had a weak schedule this year, and every team besides SD was on a roll when they came to play DEN.

    Posted December 1, 2009 at 8:19 pm

I do believe the last time the Titans tried to use the running game against the Colts they lost 31-9. You need to maintain a lead first, and when Peyton Manning can score 7 on any given drive, it\’s hard to use the running game all day. And in the last three weeks IND has played a division game which is never ease, the Ravens and the Colts. The NE game especially showed why the Colts are so dominate. 21 4th quarter points to come back to win shows a lot about a team.

  19. Posted December 1, 2009 at 8:31 pm

and that 31-9 was against an utterly different team. cincy wasnt on a roll… they opened the season. sd and dallas were both struggling at the time. the ne win was a good one, but look at the last month…. blown out by balt, pitt, and sd, and a ten pt loss to the friggin redskins. and dominant colts? they squeaked by san fran and hou AT HOME, the miracle against the Pats (for which they should thank coach b) a squeaker over balt, and another over hou in which they were dominated themselves in the first half.

Steelers really need to step it up. I know its been a rough year with injuries plaguing Big Ben and Polamalu, but they one the Super Bowl last year after facing the toughest schedule in NFL history. STEP IT UP PITTSBURGH!!!!!

  28. Posted December 3, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Come on already…..Green Bay at #5. You really can’t be serious. Aren’t you forgetting that Tampa Bay’s only win was against this team. They have not beat any quality teams and have lost to Minnesota twice and the Bengals when they have faced good teams. Also, Tennessee has been terrific the past few weeks but you still need to consider that the Patriots destroyed this team 59-0 earlier in the season with their defense mostly intact. Vince Young has been impressive but I don’t consider them a top ten team. They really have not beat any quality teams in the past five weeks with their winning streak. Now, if they can beat Indy in Indy, well that would make me more confident in them being for real but realistically that is not likely. You obviously are a fan of both Green Bay and Tennessee which is fine but try not to let it sway your rankings so much. I am a huge fan of the Bengals but I know they are still between 6-8 on the power rankings and I would not move them up just because I support them.

  29. Posted December 3, 2009 at 1:47 pm

John Blandly, my offensive line coach (well, he’s really not that offensive), says Buffalo should play in midwest division. It hurts NY teams to have them play each other so much. Same is true of NY and Texas teams in NBA. It’s bad for the fans. They should be split up and put in different divisions. What do you think?

  30. Posted December 4, 2009 at 12:42 am

    Aaron Curry for Seahawks’ MVP.

  31. Posted December 4, 2009 at 9:27 am

I love these rankings, check em every week… I only just found out that reading the rants from idiots who don’t seem to get it is even more entertaining!!

Guys… It’s his opinion. That’s why we all love sports, everyone sees things slightly differently. If you think his rankings are stupid, come back at the end of the season and see how many he calls right. Sure wont be all of them, but you think you can do better? Give it a go dummy! :o )

  32. Posted December 5, 2009 at 1:48 am

I love what Paula said. It’s all opinion anyway on every sports network that drones on all day at my house, as my fiance sits and hopes that Romo will start being consistent. *Sigh*…. I will still hang in with my Colts, and for that matter, if they lose big deal. When they have a perfect season, they never go make it past the first game in playoffs anyway. Imperfection is welcomed.
