He was the one player who most epitomized the Wisconsin Badgers’ old school Big Ten three yards and a cloud of dust style. The 1999 Heisman Trophy winner came to an early end on Tuesday when his car careened off of the highway just outside of Madison, Wisconsin.
Dayne was taken to the University of Madison hospital at just after 4:00 pm Central time after the one car accident, and reportedly passed away a short time later. Apparently his car hit a large patch of ice after a stretch of bad winter weather in the state.
Ron Dayne ran for more than 6,000 yards in his college career, and was both an all American and Rose Bowl MVP. He had a solid if undistinguished NFL career, and was active thereafter with a number of charitable events.
