There’s just something about college football this time of year. No other major sport in the United States has the kind of finality associated with collegiate gridiron. National championship dreams shattered in September, Heisman dreams born.
It was business as usual for the three teams on the polls, as Florida, Texas and Alabama dismantled lesser opponents, but after that, it got interesting… this year is almost starting to feel like the 07 season; remember that one? Every week, a couple of top teams were picked off, and we ended up with a pair of two loss teams playing for the title.
Number 4 Old Miss was the highest perched victim, falling to Steve Spurrier (remember him?) and his South Carolina Gamecocks on Thursday. The Golden Bears laid an egg of epic proportions, Happy Valley wasn’t happy at all, half of the top 25 skated by… gridiron life is good.
Before we get into the picks for week 5, let’s take a look back at this week….

Weekly Ramble: This year looks to be confusing. All of the top teams (except for ‘Bama, and we’ll know with them soon enough) have looked vulnerable. As unrealistic as it sounds now, chew on this for a National title game…. Ohio State/ Boise State. Bear with me… Boise State will, in all likelyhood, be undefeated; odds are, they won’t even be tested again. In a soft Big Ten, and with what may be the best Defense in the country right now, the Buckeyes may very well run the table. The SEC teams may take each other out, Viginia Tech could easily stumble… missteps by Texas (or a Colt McCoy injury) and it could actually happen. God help us all.
And now, your guaranteed picks for week 5…. not just a few hand picked games, but a of the division 1 action…
