5 From sunny California comes the great Jerry Rice, gloves and all. He leads in practically every category in a receivers ability to lead and has more followers then any other wide-out to play the game. 3 TDs short of 200 for a career which many believe will never be reached again its safe to say he will forever be remembered as a great, but he isn’t the best receiver to set foot on the gridiron.
Reasons?
Here you go
- Jerry Rice played most of his career on the west coast with no strong defense teams for the majority of his career. Ohh, then he moved to Raider land where the AFC west was as weak of a division as it was last year.
- He racked up his stats playing for not 1 but 2 of the best QBs of all time. Think having Alex Smith throwing to Rice he could of racked up TD after TD? Definitely not he needed Montana and Young; a lot more then they needed him.
- Rice never haid all the skill set to be the best ever, he had amazing hands and great route running just like another #80 from back then whom he should be ranked with Chris Carter. Its Carter’s ex team member that has the skill set to be the #1 of all time. His name Randy Moss.
- Randy Moss has had a great career playing for less talented QBs then Rice. Yes now he has Brady but look what he did with Brady. Total domination all across the board. Moss is faster, jumps higher, and is stronger fighting for the ball then Rice was. Ohh and wait, Moss is playing against corners and safteys that are way more physically gifted then Rice played against.
- Injuries have never really took Rice down which can not be said for the other top guns at wide-out in the past 10 years. Moss, Burress, Harrisson, and the list continues to grow have all been caught up with injuries. The stats and wins that these players could have produced over their injury time might reflect how equal they are to Rice but we will never know.
Its only time before Rice is considered just an average great. A time when people realize his era isnt as good as this era. A day when a true #1 sits as the best to have ever played the game.
Players currently playing possibly able to take that name?
- Randy Moss
- Larry Fitzgerald
- Reggie Wayne
This is the truth and it will show in just time.
Sorry Jerry just couldn’t leave the truth hinder any longer.

Hmmmm…. Interesting points and arguements but here are my points:
1. “Randy Moss has had a great career playing for less talented QBs then Rice.”
Tom Brady, Daunta Culpepper back in the late ’90s and early ’00s they were fantastic.
2. “Injuries have never really took Rice down which can not be said for the other top guns at wide-out in the past 10 years”
Wouldnt you think that him being not injury prone makes him good? I would think so.
3. Off subject: but why is Andre Johnson not on your list of ‘could be greats.’ Hmmmmm… http://sportales.com/football/why-andre-johnson-could-be-the-best-receiver-of-all-time/
read that and tell me what you think
Well as Daunte seemed fantastic he only has produced with Randy in the lineup. Also he only had a rating over 100 for a season once in his career and thats when Randy took 13 TDs in and got hurt saving a terrible throw from #11. After Moss left Culpepper went from a 111 rating to a 72 rating and hasnt started a full season since.
Also before Daunte arrived in 2000 Moss had already racked up 28 TDs in 27 starts with 3 different starting QBs.
As for Brady, Moss Has played one full season with him and broke Rice’s season TD record while also giving up 63 open appearences deep towards the end-zone which is another NFL record but that only happened because Brady is a total team player and gave oppurtunites to everyone.
As for the injury standpoint it could be said that it makes Rice better but in another standpoint Rice never played against defenses as strong, fast, and big as Moss has which leads to injurys. Also Moss is alot faster even at the age of 32 then Rice ever was creating muscle injurys to happen easier and more often.
As for Andre i left a comment on your article but i will say he does have all the right stuff, he was just unable to put it all together.
