The Eagles went out and grabbed up more defensive talent this offseason in hopes to bring a title to their town finally. With an explosive offense and a solid defense that can get the ball back it should make for an interesting playoff run.

This offseason the Eagles may have given themselves the final peices to their puzzle on defense. They went out and aggressively signed more talent to a roster that was dubbed the “Dream Team” last season. They used their first, both second round picks on the defense drafting DT Fletcher Cox, LB Mychal Kendricks and DE Vinny Curry. They went back to defense in the 4th round drafting Cornerback Brandon Boykin. All 4 guys are expected to make contributions early and often. As if adding that much talent through the draft wasn’t enough they managed to restructure Cullen Jenkins contract, resign Jason Babin and Trent Cole, traded two draft picks for DeMeco Ryans a guy who should come in and start day one at middle linebacker a position that has seen countless players cycle through over the past 5 years, they also signed Oj Atogwe a solid safety to help contribute in the secondary likely starting at strong safety in the Eagles system, Defensive Tackles Derek Landri, and Antonio Dixon were given one year deals, but come to a crowded position that also added Frank Trotter, LB Ryan Rau is a guy who could surprise some people and make the active roster this offseason with his durability, and solid tackling ability. DE Monte Taylor is a guy who could also make this team as a last second surprise, he was a two sport athlete running track, and competed in 4 different events. He wound up at El Camino Community College on their football team and played very well with 45 tackles, 8 blocked kicks, and 5 interceptions. He may very well be a guy the Eagles try out as a pass rushing end, and a stand up linebacker at times too. He certainly could bring an extra pass rush from the linebacker position, and obviously has a nose for the ball with 8 blocked kicks and 5 interceptions. When he transferred to Cincinati he forced 3 fumbles as well, also showcasing his ability to get to the ball. The Eagles are deeper at every position than they have been in years. Yes Asante Samuel was traded away but there is a chance even rookie Brandon Boykin could step in and be the nickelback. They may even have brought in two new starting linebackers in Ryans, and Kendricks, as well as a starter at defensive tackle in Cox, and safety in Atogwe. We’ll see how well these players gel together in Eagles’ uniforms.
