College Teams with The Biggest Online Following
College Teams With The Biggest Online Following.

It’s an arguement people have been having for years…. which team has the bigest online following? Not a hard question to answer… just a time consuming one.
I write articles online…. it’s a hobby of mine. I don’t make much, but I have a blast. For a middle aged dad who once had dreams of being a sports writer but didn’t have the talent…. it’s an ok substitute. Some people like reading my stuff… my views are in the millions over the last few years. Some people i piss off. I drop links in many of the message boards; in fact, if you’re reading this, odds are you followed one of them.
Some call me names, which amuses me. Spammer is the most popular one, which I don’t mind, being that it’s true. Some get personal…. usually when I don’t have their team high enough in my power rankings or some such. You get the constant few who see me as some sort of minor anti christ, and scream with big letters that if you click my link, your house will burn down, you will catch a horrible disease, and no doubt suffer other cataclysmic events.
But I don’t mind. I just keep doing my thing, and enjoying it as I go, fostering my own delusions of being a real, live sports writer.
So what does this mean? It means that I may be the closest thing the internet has to an expert on sports forums and message boards. I use them all, have interacted on them, and can tell you, to a T, just who does have the biggest online following. Here, with a few comments based on personal observation, are the big boys….

LOL at no UK in the top 5…or even the top 33.
Yeah, you’re an expert.
because UK doesnt have much activity outside of rivals and scout.
Are you ridiculous… South Carolina are far from knowledgeable about football, they’re barely over .500 all time & since Spurrier they think they’re a major player. Tighten up!
Dude you claim to be the expert on forums, can you help me improve my college football forum directory and let me know what I’m missing (there’s an e-mail address on the page):
http://www.footballforumsguide.com/
I actually don’t list every single forum; I leave out dead forums and forums that can’t be read without registering. I’m always looking for active forums that I’ve overlooked.
Re: #6. Never would have guessed THAT team would be on this list.
Re: SC. Knowledgeable? Self-proclaimed, maybe. They are experts on the SEC because it\’s been the only thing they have had to brag about until the last five years. Heck – even when their program is finally experiencing success, they don\’t know how relish in it – they still spend all their time on Clemson boards chanting SEC and bashing the Tigers for fear that their success will soon run out. Rabid? They aren\’t even the most passionate fanbase in the state, much less the country.
Glad you enjoy what you are doing, but not buying your credibility claim.
How about instead of telling us how people “harsh your buzz” ,for lack of a better term, how about you show us how you came to the end result. Its hard for me to believe that Rutgers and South Carolina is in the top 5 with such little success they have had through there history, not sure of Rutgers history but South Carolina I do because there is none…….
@Drewski Maybe you should just stick to your Clemson boards, and brace yourself for four in a row…
@DmoB I don’t know about Rutgers, but SC fans are known for their extreme passion for their Gamecocks, in spite of the team’s general lack of success through the years.
This guy is out of his mind. He most be from sc because uga didn’t even make any of his lists. This guy is a fraud.

West Virginia just scored again on Clemson.
Do you even proof read?
How can Texas Tech be #24 and honorable mention?
Please explain to me how North Carolina did not make the cut but Oklahoma did. North Carolina gets more traffic on one of their boards than OU gets on all of theirs combined. An expert huh?
What is this Rutgers they speak of?
sportales stop TROLLLLLLLLLING other websites. no body likes what you have to offer.
In my experience most Michigan fans online are afraid of their own shadows. I’d hardly call them rabid.
Maybe its because UK fans dont know how to use a computer, he’s pretty much said this is an opinion poll any ways so what. Rutgers have a very large fan base up north and if they start having some success dont be surprised if one of the bigger confrences makes them an offer just for the tv contracts
Wisconsin fans are FRIENDLIEST?!? Are you joking?? You must have meant “delusional and smug,” right??

When you write an article like this, making a particular claim, it’s boost helpful if you define your methodology. That provides at least an understanding to the reader of how you came to your conclusions. Otherwise it could Benares out of a hat. Of what interest is it to the reader for random unsupported opinions?
The online following would seem quantifiable as you can review data traffic in some manner, although you did not explain how you did that here. Hte others, such as most knowledgable has no basis. How did you arrive at your conclusion? People will always disagree on these types of opinions, the debate is half the fun, but without a basis it diminishes the viewpoint and any reason to debate it. BecauseI think they are is not a basis.
WVU fans friendly? I can dig it. We’re nice people but you are possibly the only fan to ever say that. But to not list us as rabid? We love our Mountaineers and that gets us a bad rep with other fans that to town. Credibility is questionable. Interesting article none the less.
Swing and miss!!! Strike 3
Go to TexAgs.com next time you do research. Epic fail on this one.
I realize that you are talking about online fans, but you ought to attend a Wisconsin game. The fans are mean and they are nasty. Nicest fans I have ever met, no contest, are Nebraska fans. They are so nice one fan I know calls them a cult.
Maybe you’re looking at the wrong websites. Rutgers at #4? I’ve never seen a Rutgers fan on the internet. Never. If you think LSU and VT don’t have a presence you’re not looking very hard.
And WVU with the most friendly fans? Is “friendly” meant ironically? They the the most prolific conspiracy theorists and false rumor mongerers, that’s about it.
This guy has to be RutgersAl
I’m a Rutgers fan on the internet. And there’s lots more where I come from!
tigerdroppings.com
LSU has quite an internet fanbase.
You’ve obviously never been to Tigerdroppings.com (LSU site)….It has more traffic than basically every college site in America.
This Guy knows nothing about football
No LSU, seriously? Have you ever heard of THE tigerdroppings.com
lol, troll article is trolling.
Good idea though. Leave out the two largest college football boards on the internet, sure fire way to get attention.
Texags has 10,000+ online right now. Tigerdroppings has 5700+
Without those two, this list is a complete failure.
Like the Enthusiasm, but you need a little more research.
Go to http://www.presnapread.com/ and click on each team on the right side. Find the section at the bottom labeled “Where do XYZ fans congregate?”
This lists the major fan sites for all 124 FCS teams.
When you visit every site listed, re-write your article again. As others have suggested, I suspect A&M and LSU will be 1&2.
tigerdroppings and texags. How exactly did a forums “expert” miss these?
At any given time there are between 10,000 and 16,000 online at TexAgs. Let’s see your research on the numbers for your top 25 that tops these numbers.
Uh. Texas A&M and LSU at the top and no one else comes close. Texags.com singlehandedly won an online poll for the ESPN College Gameday commercial that is airing all the time.
BM Michelle Peralta.
There are objective rankings already done for you. Nice try though.
No texags? What a joke.
Oops here are the rankings.

You did some terrible research. Tennessee’s main messageboard, Volnaiton.com, has over 49,000 members and over 7 millions posts?
And LSU…have you ever been to tiggerdroppings.com?
Find a new hobby.
South Carolina does not have a history but they do have a huge following. Thats what makes them special
Great article! You should post this stuff over on the-mainboard.com. Would make for some great discussion.
srsly? would not read again.
tigerdroppings
The guy offered his opinion based on HIS experiences, he made that quite clear, yet some of you expect his experiences to be what you want them to be.
BTW…I rofl laughing every time I read that WVU just scored again. Refresh my memory – who did they play?
Thanks for spamming the Scout forums with this drivel.
You’re a terrible writer and an ever worse fan.
clearly a scientific study
