Chad Pennington To The Chiefs In 2008

My prediction for the fate of Chad Pennington of the New York Jets.

Chad Pennington as we all know by now has been reduced to backup quarterback of the New York Jets.
By all accounts, unless Kellen Clemens were to get injured, Chad Pennington has taken his last snap
as the quarterback of the New York Jets. The Jets are expected to deal Pennington in the off-season, the
question is, where is he going? I believe, and will explain why, that Chad Pennington will be starting for
the Kansas City Chiefs next year.

First is the fact that he cannot stay on the Jets as a backup, he simply makes too much money. He will
have to play, and since Pennington’s time is up here, he will need to go somewhere.

Herman Edwards had a well documented relationship with Chad Pennington. He took Chad under his wing
and mentored him, and taught him to be the heady quarterback who had his best season in 2002. He had almost
a father/son relationship with his quarterback, and Chad never felt more comfortable than when Herman was the
coach of the team. Even though he left the team after stating publicly that he wouldn’t, he would look to go to a team
where he would be comfortable if the Jets are looking to trade him. The Chiefs would be the prime place.

Finally, the offense in Kansas City has become the Jets of the Midwest. This team is not built upon going down-field with
the football. They are built, as the Jets were under Edwards, on defense, running the football, and a short passing game.
With Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez, Herman can be quite successful with this type of game plan. Now Jets fans, does this
type of offense sound like any quarterback you know? This has Chad written all over it, and I believe that this is where Chad
Pennington will end up next year.
