Brian Cushing: The Super Rookie
The Texans first overall pick of the 2009 draft has appeared at this moment to be a huge success. What is next? Pro Bowl? Defensive Rookie of the Year?

If I do say so myself that is not a very thrilled face and I know a lot of Texans fans that felt pretty mutual on the idea of drafting Cushing. I knew he was a great player in college, numbers do not lie, I just wasn’t sure on the leap to the pro level as I am sketchy with all new players and do not think they should sign such hefty contracts striaght out of college without even strapping on pads.
Cushing stands at 6′2”, 243 pounds. He was elected to the third team all-american his senior year at USC and recorded 129 Tackles, 16.5 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 11 passes defended, 4 forced fumbles and 3 fumbles recovered in his collegiate career.
Much to everyones demise, Cushing sat out all of training camp and preseason with an injury but when the regular season kicked off Cushing was there ready to contribute to a struggling defense.

People knew that he was good, but did any one expect this good? It is a battle week in and week out with fellow linebacker Demeco Ryans on the leading tackler on the team, and Cushing brings a type of intensity that Houston’s D has not had, maybe forever. He had safety against Oakland, a feat that has not been accomplished in Houston since their inaugural season back in 2002.
Will he be a Pro Bowler? He should be, if he keeps up his intensity and makes plays like he does, we are talking pro bowl and defensive rookie of the year. Could you imagine, 2 former DROY (Ryans) lining up each week at linebacker. What a threat, we would have Mr. Manning shaking at his knees.
The pieces are coming together Houston fans. Cushing is another huge play maker on a should-be-stellar that should lead the Houston Texans to the playoffs.

Good article. Go Colts.
Great article!
Cushing is a good player and hails from my state where he’s been battling steroid rumors since early high school.
