Big Contracts

Young Athletes.

Many of us know that the NFL draft was this weekend. Besides the shock and awe of what took place, many people like to talk about the contracts that some of these young men recieve.

Most notable this year is the one that the Number 1 draft pick Matthew Stafford got. He was selected first this year by the Detroit Lions. His contract made history with a whopping 78 million dollars for 6 years. Out of the 78 million, this young man is guaranteed 41.7 million! The most in NFL history.

That basically means if he is a flop and never makes his name as a big Quarter Back on the field, this man is still set for life. All on the hope that he will be able to help the Lions franchise.

Now most of the men that are in the top 10, make that the first round in general will get a good piece of change to start out with. Of course there are always some sort of exception to this, but generally speaking the amount of money they get is a bit ridiculous. Especially since these young men have not stepped onto the professional field yet.

So then the question becomes, should these men be receiving this huge payouts? Or should they have to earn the amount that they make first? It is a tricky situation, but some people just can’t grasp the fact that their is a huge chance that these top draft picks could be a total flop.

I’d love to hear your input on the matter. I know not all of my readers are sports fans, but being avidly involved in the Pro-football world I find little things like this interesting!

Premier League football (soccer) players over here in England get obscene amounts plus bonuses for performance. I guess that is fine if they are making the club a profit, after all, how much does Elton John get paid per concert?

Almost makes you want to lay bets on which ones will leave the profession dead broke. That seems to be an all too-common pattern.

Watching most pro-sports is like watching an accountant add numbers. Between the steroids, fighting, and greed I see no need to contribute to their wallets.

All I got to say about the draft is Detroit are in for a great disappointment. There were many better options for them, for one if they really wanted a QB I think they should of gone with Sanchez. Stafford is going to be a fold in the NFL, he should of stayed out another year like his colleague Tim Tebow.
