BCS Busters: Who Still Has a Chance?

So far this year we have had some surprises and same disappointments. Teams that were looked at having a shoot at BCS busting this season was BYU, Boise State, Fresno State, and Utah. Some of those teams are out of the race, and some are in with some new added teams.

Fresno State was looked at the most likely to bust the BCS this year, but not quite.  They started of with a nice win over the Rutgers.  Then in the second week they lost a close game at home against Wisconsin.  A lot of experts were saying that Fresno State was going to bust the BCS, but personally I never thought they were going to beat Rutgers or Wisconsin.

Boise State is still undefeated with playing an easy schedule except for playing an injured Oregon team.  Boise State has mostly conference games left, and the WAC isn’t really strong this year.  So it looks like their only challege left on the schedule is playing Fresno State at home.  I don’t really think Boise State is a BCS Bowl quality team like they were in 2005.

BYU I would say is the favorite so far.  They have had a mediocre schedule, but completely blew out UCLA and Wyoming.  The whole team overall is playing great.  They still have two tough road games left on their schedule.  First playing a good TCU team and second is their rival Utah.  This team could easily bust the BCS this year.

Utah is also another favorite to bust the BCS.  They started off with a great win at Michigan and so far is still undefeated.  They have two more tough games left against TCU and BYU, but both of those games are at home.  This team isn’t as good as the 2004 Utes who beat Pittsburg in the Fiesta Bowl, but they still have amazing talent and leadership.  This team has a great chance of busting the BCS.

East Carolina started off like no one expected.  Beating Virgina Tech and West Virgina were both huge upsets.  I truey thought they were going to bust the BCS after beating a great West Virgina team.  Now they are out of the race after losing to North Carolina State.  They had hopes that were shoot down too soon.

These are a few of the teams that had or still do have a great chance of busting the BCS.  Utah and BYU are my favorites to go to a BCS bowl game.  The last game of the season Utah plays BYU at home.  Both of those teams will most likely be undefeated.  That game I think will decide their Conference Championship and also a berth to a BCS bowl game.  Utah first in 2004,  then came Boise State, then Hawaii, but who will it be this season?

although the WAC is not the strongest conference when playng each other in WAC conference games each WAC team always steps it up a notch. Look at the Nevada Boise gamelast year when it went into multiple overtimes.

I predicted Nevada to win the WAC, Boise second, and Fresno State third. My preseason WAC picks are posted here on Sportales.
