Is John Maddens retirement a good or bad thing? I know he is getting older but after so many years of wonderful announcing i will miss him. I think Mr. Madden should be put on the cover of Madden 11 as a tribute. They should even put him in the game, as a coach.

John Madden was born in Austin, Minnesota to Earl Madden and Mary Madden. When he was young they moved to San Francisco, California. Where he went to middle and graduated high school in 1954. In high school he was a football star. He then played college football at the University of Oregon, before transferring to California Polytechnic State University. Madden was drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles in 1958 in the 21st round (244th overall). But a knee injury in training camp ended his career before he ever got a chance to play. In 1960 he became an assistant coach at Allen Hancock College. And was promoted to head coach in 1962. In 1967 He became a linebacker coach for the AFLs Oakland Raiders. In which he Helped the win Superbowl 2. Madden was named the Raider’s head coach on February 4, 1969, becoming Professional Football’s youngest head coach at the age of 32. In 1977 Madden retired as a Super Bowl winning head coach and was the youngest coach ever to reach 100 career regular season victories, a record he compiled in only ten full seasons of coaching at the age of 42. From 1979 to 2009, Madden worked as a color commentator/analyst on NFL games for all four major American television networks.

“There is one thing football fans have agreed on for decades: They all love John Madden. … He had an incredible talent for explaining the game in an unpretentious way that made it more understandable and fun. John’s respect and passion for the game always stood out. He was the ultimate football fan who also happened to be an extraordinarily talented coach and broadcaster.” – NFL commissioner Roger Goodell
