A Fine Farewell to Farve
A farewell address from an avid Bears fan to a legendary QB.

As an avid Bears fan it’s not surprising for me to tell you that beating the Packers (especially in Lambeau) is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Not as special as hoisting the Lombardi but enough to make you feel as though the whole season was a success. Of course with all the hype of the longest rivalry in the NFL your disdain for each Cheesehead grows every year. Even with all the animosity felt between me and the Pack I can not deny the greatness of the one and only Farve. Any sane Bears fan would agree when we see Green Bay on the schedule, the words would somehow magically transform into FARVE. You don’t just randomly schedule your team to play against Farve’s team, it doesn’t happen, but seeing that the Bears and Farve were in the same division, the Bears had the privilege to see Farve twice a year. I hated playing Farve, I hated how when the Bears played Farve we usually lost, I hated everything about it and knowing that we had two games against him mad it worse. I hated how he made me sweat game after game, I hated the fact that he was gathering Super Bowl rings while the Bears struggled to make it to the playoffs. I hated seeing the green and yellow, but I cannot deny Farve the credit he deserves.
Sweet jubilation ran through my veins as Farve’s heartfelt retirement resounded in my ears. That moment was one of the greatest Bear’s moments of recent history, the best news since the Bears were NFC Champions. I believe Farve is one of the greatest QB’s of all time, one of the greatest players of all time, that’s why his retirement was such a sweet moment in Bear’s history. I thought it is was a great moment and wished him well. The Hall of Fame can not resist him, and if my vote counted I’d be the first one to vote for Farve to be inducted in to the HOF; I’d roll the red carpet out for him if they did such a thing, but I wish he wouldn’t have done a “Jordan Retirement.” Since he did and because he wasn’t donning the wretched “G” I rooted and cheered for his success as a Jet, I was hoping they would make the playoffs, but obviously it would not end that way. Although I think he should have stayed away, I am glad he was able to come back, and I actually wish he would stay one more year. Farve didn’t tarnish his career when he played last year. If anything he added to the mystification of his greatness. In everything Farve did in his last year, he added to it. He added excitement and drama to the NFL season. He added more numerical values on each record he holds, making them even more unattainable. He added more star power to his star studded career. He added hope to an organization looking for direction towards better days. And he gave all of America a reason to watch football on Sunday morning. As much as I wish Farve would stick around for one more season I wish him success in his future goals. Thank you from a great Bear fan to one of the greatest players of all time.

He’s going to be sorely missed. His attitude, his enthusiasm for the game, and his becoming a role model for youth all helped to propel the increase in popularity of the NFL in recent years. Favre was a joy to watch. I watch very little pro football during the season, but I would watch Favre play every chance I could. Nice tribute!
