2008 NFL: Are You Here Yet?

Here’s the deal, I can see the blades of grass when I get up and close with my plasma HD. Yeah, this is the time of year and I am getting ready for some football. Being a NFL football fan is rough. I do not watch much of other sports, kudos’ to those who do, I envy you. I tried watching the Olympics a couple of times. Wave the flag, cheer, cheer and all of that, but sometimes I thought I was watching for the wrong reason, women gymnastics really take some real athleticism and courage, yea right. But, football season is right around the corner, and you all know what you can do with preseason football.

To prepare for the first game is easy strategically but the logistics of the emotion is what is tough. I want it now, and I mean NOW!. So; I just calm down, take a breath and surf the web, talk, walk and sleep football for the next couple of weeks. It is not going to be easy, the days grow longer and longer, time seems to become my enemy. I am going for the touchdown but the goal posts just keep getting farther away. I run harder and harder but I just do not seem to gain any yards. I can feel Shawne Merriman chasing me down, closing in, slowly.

So I relax, chat a little, call a friend, drive around for a while, go to work, if needed and do little things to pass the time. “Time she’s a lookin’ at me.” and I just ignore her, the days, the hours and the minutes. I am busy doing things and accomplishing stuff, and going to the store. Time has nothing on me, nothing on me emotionally. I will wait, like a Zen Buddha priest with the patience of the universe. I rake the yard, take out the garbage, vacuum, dishes, (sob).

“Is it here yet?” …”It is not even close.”…My patience drains like ArrowHead Stadium during a cloud burst. I tense up. Relax, it is just football, its the NFL. Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Jon Gruden; Dungy is a master at this stuff, waiting. I must learn from Dungy, help me Tony Dungy, HELP me. When is the season going to start? When is Thursday, September the forth….

Redskins @ Giants.. Who is Snyder fooling. Jim Zorn? A quarterbacks coach; working with Holgrem the last decade… Well Maybe.. This game will interesting.

Will little brother get his own commercial and not have to share with “Mr Perfect”. I sure hope so.

Just sit back, relax and do something important, clean the garage, go get some groceries. I know; I’ll trim those trees in the back.
