Sea Fishing One

I have been sea fishing mainly in the Merseyside area for fifty years. We all know what the best baits are, Namely fresh Peeler,Rag or Lug. Sometimes I had recourse to using salted or frozen bait, In my opinion they are a rip off. I have never had so much as a bite using them. I dont know anybody else who has ever had a result using the rubbish but still they are sold.

Last week I went to a local tackle shop and was told that they had difficulty getting supplies of fresh bait. Of course the rubbish salted or frozen was always available. What planet are they on. There are numerous sources of bait on the internet. Grant you if we have extremely bad weather conditions or a breakdown in the national road system there might be a problem.

When I was a child I was taken cockling many a time and found out that a few fresh cockles on the hook will take fish.

Another matter that surprises me are reports of flatties being caught on fish baits. Around Merseyside fish baits are used in the winter when we get the run of cod and whiting. You might catch ray or bass with it at other times but not flatties. Maybe someone out there in blogspace can tell me if they have ever took a flattie with a fish bait.

On the local radio the other week it was suggested that putting WD40 on your bait made it attract fish. I dont know if its a windup or not. Could someone wise me up about this please.

I would like to have any local reports of catches, bait, locations, tips or advice.
