Are you a novice fisherman or woman who is wondering why you are catching no fish? Well if you are, read on.
Make sure you use the right bait. You want to use a regular hook with 1 hook. Just place an ordinary night-crawler on it from its head to its butt.
One of the reasons you aren’t catching any fish could be your place. Normally fish like the shade, under a tree, or way down in the deep water. Now if you want to catch pirch that are small, or pike that are big, you should fish out in 7+ foot deep water. They also love swimming in the weeds, so most of the time, the more weeds, the better. Now, you are going to need a sinker or two so you open it with pliers (I use my teeth if I have none). You put the big gap on the line then bite down on it to close. Now cast your pole. Depending on what kind of pole, open headed or regular, you have to be able to cast well. With a regular pole, you have to click and hold the button. Now you raise it above your head or off to the side, flick it and at the same time, let go to release the line.
You should get a good 10 feet or so if you did it right. Then you just real it in a little to close the line. Now you wait. Now with an open headed real, you have to flick the half circled metal loop. Flick it up. Quickly hold the line against the pole so it all doesn’t unravel onto of your boat. Now flick the pole towards the water and let go of the line. This one takes a little bit more skill than the other one so it may take a few tries. If you did all this right then hopefully you will catch a few fish!
Another place to fish is on the sides of the lake. Normally where trees have fallen down is where fish like to be. If you see little circles in the water that is a sign they’re there. Now you take the sinkers off, you might catch a tree and trust me, that sucks. Now, flick it not too hard or it will be on the shore. You want to get it right in the middle of two trees. Normally you will catch blue-gill, bass, sunfish, and maybe a trout here.
Now if you get something that you think is a fish, don’t freak out. Just let it fight for about 5 seconds. If it tugs then it is a fish. If you just reeled it in, and you got a reaction it could be a log or a weed. If it is a fish then tug up a little bit with the pole to make sure it is on the hook fully. Now reel it in nice and easy not too hard or too soft. The way you get it off the hook is, you put your non-dominate hand on its head on rub it down over its spikes. Now it cant hurt you with its dorsal fin. Now you get the hook out with your other hand. You don’t want to just rip it out. Trust me, the head will come off if you do that sometimes. You want to grab the part of the hook that is sticking out and just kind of twist it around until it loosens. Then pull it out gently.
Congratulations! You now know how to fish correctly!! You will be on the ESPN fishing show in no time!
