Are you a sports fanatic? You might want to try some of the world’s wackiest sporting events… it won’t get you an Olympic medal but it sure looks fun!
1. ELEPHANT POLO (South Asia)
Similar to regular polo (which uses horses) but certainly played at a slower pace. Popular in Thailand, Laos, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
2. LOG-TOSSING (Scotland)
Known in the homeland as Tossing the Caber, this is a traditional event played as part of the highland games. Men throw a 90- to 120-pound log end over end like javelins to see who can toss it the farthest.
3. COW RACING (Australia)
Bovine dash! This unusual contest employs human jockeys and urgers, who help the dairy cows running.
4. CHEESE ROLLING (Europe)
Round-wheeled cheeses course down along the hills to see who can get it to the finish line in the least number of rolls. This sport is played in Italy, Holland, Britain and other cheese-making countries.
5. ZORBING (New Zealand)
Strap a person into a plastic sphere 9 feet wide and roll him down the hill! Wear your headgear though!
6. HIGH-HEEL RACING (Russia)
Women compete to see who can run the fastest in shoes with heels of least 3 inches high. Originally a Russian pastime, this sport has caught on in other places, such as North America and Germany.
7. UNDERWATER HOCKEY (United States)
Similar to ice hockey but inside a swimming pool! Players wear snorkeling equipment, carry foot-long sticks and try to push a 3-pound puck around the bottom of a pool. How’s that for indoor fun?
