Bungee Jumping: The Chilled Experience

A spine-chilling experience, which remains for rest of the life.

My mind wavered from the day I planned to do bungee jumping. Whenever I discussed with any friends about this, first advice I got was “You are going to break your back bone. Come on, you have a family. Don’t take such risks”. So I used to put off the plan for some more days. But I couldn’t sleep from the day I heard the experience of one of my friend and saw his bungee jumping pictures. Finally I made up mind.

I fixed a date and place. The place was Interlaken, Switzerland. I started from my location Basel to Interlaken in an Inter City Express, with my family. I don’t know what to name the feeling I had at the time of travel. Joy, fear, imagination, whatever it is, I just kept looking at my watch to reach that place. Finally we reached that place and the adventures team which conducts the bungee jumping at that location I selected, came to pick me and family from the railway station.

Oh, what a beautiful location it was, surrounded fully with trees and a lake travelling all the way along with us. The team took us to their base station, from where we travelled nearly 5 minutes in a cable car to reach another base station. People who came just to watch have to stand there. I too left my family along with them, waving my hands and with a flying kiss. We were taken in another cable car to a height of 160ft, after checking our weights. Below was a beautiful lake, seen as a blue dot from that height.

The guide of the team asked “who wants to jump first?” and out of excitement, I raised my hand above like a school student. He said “Brave o” and asked me to come front. The man who stood at my back said in my ears in a husky voice, “You are going to be our trail version, just to check whether the rope and all machines are working fine”, with a funny looking eyes. I felt a chillness spreading along my spine and reaching the tail bone. But I didn’t show out.

The guide explained me how to jump and tied the bungee rope around my legs. He told I have to jump once when he say “1, 2, 3 and jump”. I agreed. When he completed the word “Jump”, I screamed “Give me one more chance”. He laughed and counted again. This time, I didn’t have a second thought. I just jumped out.

Man, how to say that in words. I felt light, I felt as if I don’t have my body carried along with me and I’m weightless. I didn’t even open my mouth to scream. I didn’t want to miss anything. So I didn’t close my eyes. I kept them wide open to see me reaching the lake’s surface. I saw the lake raising from the ground and approaching me. I heard people screaming, shouting and clapping from the base station.

Huhhh…. What’s that? Oh GOD, the bungee rope pulled me back to sky. I were taken back in the same force I approached earth. I felt as if I were grabbed back from the earth, as shown in movies that a dinosaur’s pulls back a man when he tries to run off. No chance. I felt all my hormones begging for an escape. All organs inside my body were displaced and placed back in positions. The rope kept me pulling like this for 3-4 times. Finally, it got bored with me and just left me to hang like a lizard above the lake.

I saw a tiny object moving towards me. I tried to find what it was. Thank GOD, it was a boat to unload me from the lizard’s position. The person from the boat raised a rod towards me. I hold that and got down into the boat. For some time, I couldn’t realize what happened to me. I saw my family and other people waving hands towards me. I proudly waved back. The boat left me in the shore, along with the next two jumpers.

I ran to the base station and hugged my WIFE and SON “I’m back dears”.

This is how my husband explained to me about his “BUNGEE JUMPING” experience, when I asked. So friends, if you have imagined me hanging like a lizard, sorry you are wrong. Never expect me to do such stupid things
