Horsemanship

My experience.

Over the past 2 and a half months, I have been taking horseback riding lessons. The horse I’m working with is Dave. Yes, Dave. A strong name, a horse name. Horseback riding is such an amazing experience! I thought it was all physical, but there’s a lot of mental work in there too. For example, if you want your horse to go faster, you have to squeeze with your legs briefly and keep thinking about what you want from him, as well has thinking Energy up! Energy up!

But Dave also taught me a lot about myself. I know, I know, it sounds sappy. But it’s true! When I first rode Dave, I wasn’t decisive enough. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted from Dave. So that handsome brown quarterhorse would just do his thing. And this is very much true in my life, I am very hesitant when it comes to decision making. Thank you Dave, because now I know that I need to overcome that obstacle with you, and in my life.

It has been such a wonderful experience being around horses. Sometimes I would be about to go around the back of Dave when he’d lift his tail like he was about to fart or poop. So I had to choose whether to wait it out, or take a big circle around. And those moments… they make it all worth it.

But it has been a delight, and I urge anyone that as interested, and has the resources, to takes, halter, bridle, bit, trot, trotting, gallop, galloping  horseback riding lessons. You won’t regret it. I promise.

That’s all.
