Sometimes, it can be really difficult and even dangerous to work with horses. For ever horse trainer or rider, once in a while you experience bad horse behaviors which can be really annoying. These include biting and kicking or bucking and rearing. You can effectively reduce these bad behaviors if you are able to maintain a leadership role with your horses. Consider these 5 effective Horse Training Tips.
1. Have a good lead
Let your horse follow you at a short distance just off your shoulder. If your horse tries to move faster than you; simply change direction so that you will always be ahead. This will make the horse respect you as the leader which will in turn make him behave well towards you.
2. Teach your horse to relax
Horses are naturally on the lookout for any threat that may arise. You need to ensure that your horse is always relaxing. When the horse raises his head high, it means that he is tensed up but when his head is down, he is relaxed, probably looking for something to eat. It is your duty to teach your horse to always maintain the relaxing position.
3. Keep him paying attention
It is also important that you make your horse always pay attention. If he is looking out far off draw the rope so his nose could come towards you, also check the ears to make sure they are not listening to what may be happening in the distance. The attention of the horse should always be where you are.
4. Don’t just ride off into the sunset
If you do not keep your horse listening to you, the tendency is for him to look out for new threats. Have him move the hindquarter and front while you are riding.
These 4 tips will help you train horses that will respect you and see you as a leader. All you need do is apply them. In this way, the horse will reduce his bad behavior to minimal levels.
