Big Brown: The Shoe Didn’t Fit
Big Brown lost the Belmont Stakes, and until now, we did not know why the horse was unable to run, as competently as he had in previous races.

Big Brown was running to become the first Triple Crown winner, in thirty years. The excitement was building, all eyes were on the track, but it didn’t happen. Big Brown finished last, and the Triple Crown was lost for another year. Big Brown was examined after the Belmont Stakes, and there was nothing found at that time, which revealed any stress related illness, or any external, obvious injury.
It has now been revealed, that during the beginning of the race, Big Brown’s right hind hoof, somehow dislodged the horseshoe, and Big Brown was unable to adjust to the feel of the dislodged shoe, or the feel of the shoe, was just too uncomfortable, for Big Brown to make a credible run in the race.
Some had thought, that the horse might have run poorly, due to the fact, that he had not been given a steroid shot. Or, that the weather had played a part in the loss. It was very hot at the Belmont track that day. But none of those particulars were at play, according to the reports, from the trainer and the owner. So the mystery of Big Brown losing the race, seems to be solved.
It was, by all appearances, the shoe that was the culprit. Big Brown’s shoe coming partially off, curtailed the Triple Crown win, and so we wait for yet another superb horse to run for the roses, and a little more, and take the coveted Triple Crown.

Good article.
Great review, we watched the race on TV and were surprised when Big Brown lost. On the screen it looked as if he was just exchausted and quite trying.

Big Brown might have been hurt or
