Another eventful stage has taken place, in this year’s Tour De France.

Today was the 3rd stage of the Tour De France. With the wind blowing hard, and the riders not as fresh as they were 2 days ago, the stage was underway. The start of the stage started as it always does, with the peleton cycling at a steady pace, waiting for the attack. This attack came, from 4 riders who were later pulled back into the peleton.

What the surprise was, though, was a break in peleton due to the wind. Team Columbia-HTC, who was leading the peleton, picked up the pace and broke away with a number of other riders, including names like Lance Armstrong, Thor Hushovd, Fabian Cancellara, and a handful of others. However, many other names, like Carlos Sastre and Alberto Contador were left behind in the split, and the peleton went into an array of confusion as some teams wanted to catch up to the breakaway, and others didn’t.

In the end, the breakaway succeeded, and in the final 0.3 kilometres, the sprint for the stage win ensued. Thor Hushovd gave Cavendish a run for his money, but Hushovd couldn’t quite get the extra acceleration needed to win the stage, and Cavendish won his second stage win of this year’s Tour.

Unfortunately for the peleton, 39 seconds were given up to the leaders.
A very enjoyable stage, especially at the end. Tomorrow’s stage will be the very enjoyable Team Time Trials, and that’s something everyone looks forward to!
