Tour De France is the most famous bicycle race across the world. It is an extremely long stage bike ride which takes the cyclists all aroundFrance . The tour de France is for professional cycling teams. Most people around the world know about the race even if their not a huge cycling fan.

General info
The tour de France is a harsh enduring race where the cyclists travel for miles at a time. The cycling teams work together to make their way up enduring hills and back down again. The leader of the race wears a significant jersey to warn other riders that he is in the lead. This is the yellow jersey and there is only one of these.
There has been a problem since the race began, doping. In the early years of the race people used substances as alcohol to lower the pain during the race. As the tour went on people started using substances to increase performance rather than getting rid of the pain.
History
The tour de France has been annually run since 1903, the only exception is with World War I and World War II. The tour in our days now is consisted of teams with commercial sponsors but in the beginning of the race it was for individual racers.
Location
The tour de France is situated in France, but commonly it has stages in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
Famous winner
The most famous winner of the Tour de France is Lance Armstrong. He had beaten the previous record of five consecutive wins and recorded seven consecutive wins smashing the record by two wins. He did all this after he received successful surgery from cancer.
