As a bike rider looking to exercise or compete, the sport of cycling can look complicated.  Peddling can be hard enough, but what does “echelon” or “peloton” mean?  Watching the Tour de France changes cycling from a physical exertion to a mind blowing terminology class.  Beyond the look, cycling can be an enjoyable activity.  There are only a few points to remember.

First, if you start peddling as fast as you can, your ride will end just as soon as it started.  Sudden bursts can make you feel like you are peddling against a brick wall.  After a while of some constant peddling, you will be warmed up and ready to go.  At this point, speed will vary according to the workout.

Another skill unique to cycling is the slipstreaming.  Whenever possible, stay behind another rider, and you will find the peddling less intense.  Slipstreaming can make the cycling thirty percent easier.  Save energy.  Conserve.  Slipstream.
