We may take our vehicles for granted at times but faithful friends though they may well be, you have to think about maintaining a vehicle too. It isn’t going to do you any good if you don’t remember or ignore having to keep it in good working order. Maintenance on a car should be annual at least and wear and tear will soon mean you need extra bits and pieces. All this mounts up when it comes to counting the pounds in cost. It sometimes feels like it is an ongoing thing and then when the car eventually has to go you are faced with the extraordinary cost of replacing it.

When a motorist turns to the good old bicycle, fastidious about his bike equipment, he may not be quite so old fashioned as some might think. Today, it is extremely popular and fast becoming an ultra modern concept to ride a bicycle into work. Go to any large city during rush hour time and you will see scores of men and women riding bikes to get to work on time, beating the traffic. This is by no means limited to those cycling to an outdoor job or sporting venue, fanatics of bike equipment. City workers, even in central London, are often seen donning bike gear, pedalling through the West End on their way to the office. Many senior managers and directors have got this down to a fine art. They will arrive at the office, take a quick shower and be at their desk bright, fresh and early, beating the crowds.

Of course that is the other rather sneaky advantage of biking it in. You can sail past the queues with a jaunty air of triumph as the drivers fluster and fume, bumper to bumper, in their snaking queues, waiting to inch forward. Yes, it can certainly be advantageous fun when you bike along to work on two wheels.
