How to ride faster? This is a big question and just one is not enough. Let’s spit it in categories. There is the nutrition, the training, the bicycle and the ride.

To train you just need to give everything you have all the time. No rest, no stop, never quit. You just need to waste all your energy here. Yes, you do just that, train wasting your energy. This way you teach your muscles how to use it and how they can restore it when they need more! The train must be very intense and the more pain you feel the faster you are improving. If you are not super tired or you do not feel too much pain you are just not making any progress… Train everyday, only stop one day in the week and if you can train more than one time per day! Bruce Lee never rested, maybe you should mimic him!

Nutrition is almost as important as training is. You need to eat a lot and only healthy food. If you are going to train with your stomach filled with beer and fast food, you will not perform half of what you could be performing. You see, the better you eat, the better your fuel in your body will be and the better your cells will be feed. Pedaling is just using fuel to push the pedals down. If your fuel is bad, the force you make will be bad too… Only eat healthy food and have a zero tolerance with you!

Next thing is the bicycle. You need to make a lot of maintenance in order to keep it in shape. You need to change the tires every year and you need to fill them all they can have. The harder they are, the faster you will ride because they will not absorb and waste so much energy acting as a shock, and they will not brake so much because the contact with the road is limited! You need to make sure that no cables are free, everything must be in order, the brakes too and the oil in the chain must be too much so the chain will perform it’s best. Make sure you also clean your bike from the top to the bottom because dirt can make it harder for the wheels to spin.

Finally in the big race you need to manage your energy like Einstein. Never ever make a brute force pedal, not even once because the amount of energy you waste will be so much that you might never recover in that race. Always ride at the slowest speed you can, just enough to keep up with the other members. Put yourself behind them so they will drag all the wind for you. Always eat and drink even when you are not hunger. Your body is not to trust in measuring the hunger.

Above all, never quit and feel pain. It’s the only sign you are improving!
