Women’s Cricket vs. Women’s Tennis

Recently, Women’s Cricket World 2009 event took place. However, I have not come across any kind of interest or hype, while if any main tennis tournament comes the situation is reverse.

Sometimes I ask myself a question.

• Why Women’s cricket not liked but Women’s tennis liked?
• Why Women’s cricket not liked but Men’s cricket liked?

What is the reason?

The first thing, which comes to my mind, is that women play slower game as compared to men. Therefore, this could be the biggest factor that everyone likes to watch Men’s cricket.

Secondly, the promotion of the game is the key factor. However, this is not of much use since the people are accustomed to watch fast and athletic game. Therefore, it will not be possible for them to watch this slow game.

Now, in comparison to tennis also, it is a slower game. In addition, the glamor is almost zero as compared to the glamor in tennis, which gives tennis a big boost in marketing.

I think glamor might be the reason that despite having Men’s tennis, Women’s tennis is so much in demand. In conclusion, women’s cricket need to be high on glamor to become popular otherwise they will never get the recognition they deserve.
